Dsiability Inclusion Action Plan
Walgett Shire Council - Development of Disability Inclusion Action Plan.
Walgett Shire Council is progressing well with the consultation and development phases of its Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP). The DIAP will seek to offer all people with a disability within our Shire, inclusion and access to services, facilities and all aspects of community life.
Disability planning is about supporting the basic right of choice for people with disabilities in our Shire.
An extensive consultation process is being undertaken guided by the formation of Access and Inclusiveness Reference Groups in each larger community and a Council working group.
In a bid to gain as much valuable information and consultation from residents as possible, Council’s community development teams are planning consultations sessions and survey distribution around community gatherings across the Shire in the coming weeks.
The four focus areas of the Disability Inclusion Access Plan are:
· Developing positive community attitudes and behaviours
· Creating Liveable communities
· Supporting access to meaningful employment
· Improving access to services through better systems and processes.
The consultation process is geared towards enhanced community engagement where local residents with a disability and their carers can be informed, consulted and involved through a number of different opportunities including public consultation meetings, survey’s, Council’s website which will operate an online, easy to use, survey monkey tool and Council staff conducting “in place” engagement at community events and locations throughout the Shire.
