For those that have not heard Walgett is the place to be on the June Long Weekend 2008 (7th & 8th June 2008) to celebrate 50 Years of Walgett Rams Rugby. The committee and past players are very keen to have as many ex-players, members, ex-members, or just friends of the Club, to come back and celebrate the Golden Anniversary.
Saturday 7th June 2008 On Saturday 7th June everyone is welcome at the ‘Tin Shed’ from 11am for a family BBQ, followed by a couple of games of very entertaining football. We are looking for interested people to participate in an ‘Old Buffers Game’ – if anyone is keen to dust off their old boots please contact Jack Murray 02 6828 8461 or Ron Douglas 02 6828 1146 (h) or 04 2728 1718 (mob) to arrange selection to this very elite team. The Tin Shed Bar will close at 5pm on Saturday to prepare for the Sunday Luncheon, this will provide everyone with an opportunity to organise your own activities and catch up with old friends or, alternatively there will be entertainment at the Sporto on Saturday 7th June, commencing at 8pm for those wanting re-live some of their most memorable or not so memorable moments. A reminder to non-members of the Sporting Club you will need to be signed in before 9pm to be allowed entry into the Club. Sunday 8th June 2008 Please find enclosed an invitation to a Luncheon on Sunday 8th of June commencing at 11.00am – this will be the only formal gathering of the weekend and hope as many people as possible are able to join us. For catering purposes full payment is required with your RSVP by Friday 16th May, 2008 either by cheque or electronic deposit (Details on invitation). Numbers are limited so we urge you to reply as soon as possible. Cost of the luncheon is $75.00 per head and will include memorabilia, two course meal and drinks for the duration of the luncheon. Memorabilia will be auctioned after the formalities of the luncheon are over – don’t forget to bring your cheque book. At the close of the lunch full bar facilities will be available at standard drink prices until early evening at the ‘Tin Shed’.
We are currently investigating the possibility of having buses run from accommodation and pick up points to the Tin Shed between 11.00am and12.00pm and return drop offs from 3pm to early evening back to your accommodation. More on these details later.
It is a mammoth task trying to contact everyone who may be interested in joining in the celebrations and seek your assistance in contacting old friends who may not have received an invitation. We ask that you pass on the Reunion details and ask interested people to contact Mrs Jenni McKenzie 02 6828 1228 (w) or 02 6828 1811(h) or jenni@wsoc.com.au or Mr Jack Murray 02 6828 8461 (h) or 04 0928 8461 (mob) or rugby50years@gmail.com to ensure no-one misses out on an invite to this special occasion. We are also looking for old team photos (in particular team photos from 1998 to 2005), photos of the clubs memorable moments (Grand finals, fundraisers, the ‘Tin Shed’ at various stages of construction) or video/photos of Rugby Reviews or the Mock Wedding. There are parts of the Rugby Club history that are missing and it would be great to try and recover some old memories. If you have something of interest please could contact Wally Friend on 02 6828 5234 or at wfriend@bigpond.com or Jack Murray to organise copies of the material for the Clubs records.
