Local Environmental Plan - Comprehensive LEP development

Walgett Shire Council has engaged Edge Land Planning to prepare a comprehensive draft Local Environmental Plan for Walgett Shire Council.
The Walgett Shire Growth Management Study and Draft Strategy was publicly exhibited from 30 July 2007 to 30 September 2007.
The purpose of the Study and Strategy is:

To provide an overview of existing land use patterns within the Shire.

Document issues arising from existing land use patterns.

Analyse the matters which will influence future land use patterns within the Shire, including legal requirements, demographics, existing land uses, land availability, etc.

Make recommendations to Council to guide its decisions relating to planning and services for the future development of the Shire.

To provide a mechanism for community consultation and input into land use planning within the Shire.
Council's consultant has prepared the document with the above purposes in mind while also giving appropriate consideration to issues such as village character, protection of agricultural land and rural landscape and impact on the environment.
