Bridges

Walgett Shire is an area of New South Wales which is traversed by a number of rivers. As such, a significant part of the Shire consisits of river flood plain and, as a consequence of this, a large number of bridges have been required to permit roads to pass through the area. Walgett has 80 bridges in the Shire, most of which are of concrete construction. To this number must be added several larger structures, across the Namoi, Barwon and Castlereagh Rivers, which are maintained directly by the State Roads Authority. Walgett has a small number of timber bridges, all of which are in need of replacement. It is hoped that funding assistance from both the State and Commonwealth Governments will allow most of these timber bridges to be progressively replaced over the next ten years. Please see the map below for the location of all bridges in Walgett Shire.
