RowenaLast modified: November 23, 2007 - 12:21 AM
The village of Rowena Rowena is a tiny village nestled between Collarenebri and Burren Junction. The town's population is approximately 50, with a lovely old Church of England and a general store. Rowena sits midst a cast cotton and wheat growing area with sheep and cattle. Off the beaten track tourists can find plenty of local handicrafts and woodwork on display. The village of Rowena is just a relic of what it once was. Originally a promient railway siding it played host to a wheat stack and a hotel, which like many bush pubs, burnt down. Today all trading is done through Rowena Village Inn which is a licensed premises as well as a shop. At least two trains carrying wheat and cotton pass through Rowena each day but no longer stop. The Merrywinebone cotton gin and wheat silos are located within 15 minutes of Rowena and are well worth a visit. There is plenty of opportunities to find work, and there are of course the friedly locals you have got to meet. Contact details | |||||||||||||
