Come By ChanceLast modified: November 22, 2007 - 2:48 PM
The village of Come By Chance Come-by-Chance postcode: 2832, is a locality in the Pilliga district of northern NSW. It is located about 100 km North West of Coonamble in the Walgett Shire and about 250km from Dubbo. Each year in September the population of Come-by-Chance swells with their famous picnic races. Come and visit this tiny village and find out why it has become one of the most popular picnic races in the region! The name Come-by-Chance originated from William Colless' property named Come-by-Chance station. It was thought all the land in the area had been allocated, but as the name suggests, one came by chance to the Colless family when it was missed during the selection. Many buildings that existed in the nineteenth century do not exist today. Infact the General Store, The School of Arts, Post Office, Cemetary and a few homes are all that are left in the village of Come by Chance. The cemetary is one of the few privatley owned cemetaries in the state, it is part of the Bungle Gully property. The cemetary consists mostly of Colless', Evans' and McMillans'.
