Road Touring

Road touring is one of the best ways to see country Australia, because it gives you maximum flexibility. You can stop whenever you want to and taking full advantage of unexpected discoveries.

Hire cars can be difficult to come by so if you're thinking of using a hire care for part of your journey, it may be best to organise this from the city or a regional centre.

Accommodation and tours

To organise accommodation and tours, contact one of the information centres for contact details and more information. Accommodation is generally available without booking in advance, however at festival times or when large groups are travelling, accommodation is usually fully booked. It is safest to book ahead if you can.

The Weather

Generally speaking, summers are hot and winters are mild. if you're travelling in the colder months (May to September), make sure you have warm clothes for chilly evenings - but don't forget to bring your bathers, becasue winter is also the best time to soak in our hot artesian bore baths.

DRIVING TIP:

Drive with your parking lights on during the day so oncoming vehicles can see you coming

DRIVING TIP:

Plan to drive during the day, when you're least likely to run into kangaroos on the road. Try to avoid driving at dusk or dawn, which are the busiest times for grazing roos.
