Expressions of Interest – Floodplain Risk Management Advisory Committee

Walgett Shire Council is calling for Expressions of Interest from community members and stakeholders to join the Floodplain Risk Management Advisory Committee (FRMAC).

As one of the most flood-prone areas in NSW, it is vital that Walgett Shire Council works closely with the community, government agencies and technical experts to improve how we prepare for and respond to flooding.

The purpose of the Committee is to assist Council in the development and implementation of Floodplain Risk Management Plans across the Walgett Local Government Area. These plans aim to:

  • Better understand local flood behaviour and risks
  • Guide land use planning and development standards
  • Improve emergency management and community safety
  • Identify practical measures to reduce the impact of flooding on people, property and the environment

The FRMAC will act as an advisory body, providing a forum for discussion of technical, social, cultural, environmental and economic issues. Members will help Council distil different viewpoints into practical solutions and priorities.

Membership will include representatives from:

  • Local and state government agencies
  • Emergency services
  • Community organisations
  • Interested residents and landholders

Council is seeking expressions of interest from individuals who have knowledge, experience or a strong interest in flood risk management and community resilience.
