Kookaburra Court Open Day a Strong Success

Walgett Shire Council is pleased to announce that the Kookaburra Court Community Open Day was a great success, with more than 40 visitors walking through the door within the hour long event. Guests included representatives from local organisations, former employees who worked at the facility during its time as an aged care home, emergency services, medical professionals, Indigenous community representatives, staff from Roy Butler’s office, and community members eager to see the transformation of the site.

Visitors provided overwhelmingly positive feedback, expressing strong interest in the newly refurbished rooms and the role the facility will play in supporting visiting workers and partner agencies.

General Manager Andrew Brown thanked the community for its support, stating, “Given the community’s passion for Kookaburra Court, we weren’t surprised to see such a strong turnout. We really appreciated everyone’s feedback, and with an onsite caretaker now in place, the rooms are ready to be booked.”

Kookaburra Court is now available as short‑term accommodation for visiting workers and professionals. In establishing this facility, Council has been mindful not to compete with local private accommodation providers, and rates have been set accordingly.

Rates and Minimum Stay

Minimum stay: 2 nights
$160 per night (minimum 2 nights)
$1,000 per week (7 nights, effectively allowing one complimentary night)

Please note that the facility remains a work in progress. While rooms are ready for occupancy, Council is continuing to finalise the full range of offerings, with additional services to be introduced over the coming months.

A dedicated website is currently being developed to streamline bookings. In the meantime, enquiries can be directed to kookaburracourt@walgett.nsw.gov.au. At this stage, Council’s preference is for accommodation to be paid via invoice to the partner agency.
