AUSTRALIA DAY AWARDS 2021
Do you know someone who has helped make Walgett Shire a better place?
Walgett Shire Council is calling on residents to make a nomination for the 2021 Australia Day Citizen Awards to recognise those who make a positive difference in the community.
Each year Council acknowledges the unsung heroes who make outstanding contributions through volunteering and individual acts of compassion, generosity, or bravery.
Whether through the arts, education, health, community welfare or acts of charity, we all know someone who deserves recognition for the hard work they do for the community.
The Walgett Shire 2021 Australia Day Awards offer a chance to recognise the local heroes who have made Walgett Shire a better place to live, and nominations are now open.
Australia Day Awards are presented in the following categories: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Health Award, Business Award, Student Citizenship Award, Volunteer of the Year Award & Lifetime Achievement Award
This year has been tumultuous and challenging – and communities throughout Walgett Shire have shown fortitude as it faced down the COVID-19 pandemic. So the awards will be even more special than usual.
In previous years, Walgett Shire Council has asked residents to nominate an Event of the Year. This year, COVID-19 has forced the cancellation of most events. Therefore, the Event category has been suspended this year.
Previous award winners have come from a range of diverse backgrounds and have included people taking action for a brighter future, passionate volunteers, high achieving sports people and those dedicated to promoting our unique Shire.
To nominate a person or a group that has gone above and beyond for our community, visit www.walgett.nsw.gov.au. Nominations are open until 4.30 pm, Friday 18 December 2020
And we celebrate our nation, its achievements and most of all, its people.
We’re all part of the story.
