Grants of up to $25,000 are now available to support remote, rural and regional communities across Australia through the Strengthening Rural Communities (SRC) – Prepare & Recover program.
This funding supports community-led initiatives that help prevent or prepare for future climate-related impacts, or assist with recovery from past disasters in the medium to long-term (1–10 years post-disaster).
What Kind of Projects Are Eligible?
The program is open to a wide range of initiatives. Priority will be given to projects that:
✅ Respond to a specific climate impact or disaster (past or likely in future)
✅ Focus on community-led recovery or preparedness
✅ Strengthen local capacity through inclusion, networks, communication, or decision-making
✅ Come from local community groups or not-for-profits without DGR status
✅ Support First Nations-led initiatives, reconciliation, or connection to Country
✅ Invest in remote, outback, or under-resourced communities
✅ Help with generational change or support a fair energy transition
Projects that build local resilience and create lasting benefits are encouraged to apply.
Who Can Apply?
Local community groups and not-for-profit organisations are welcome to apply—even if they do not have Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. Two funding streams are available under the Strengthening Rural Communities (SRC) program:
