Walgett Shire Local Heritage Fund 25/26 Applications Now Open

Walgett Shire Council is inviting eligible property owners to apply for grants to assist with conservation and restoration works that protect our local heritage.

Letters will be sent to properties identified as eligible under this round.


Funding available

  • Grants from $500 to $12,500, depending on the number of applications received.

  • No matching contribution is required for 2025–2026.

  • Works must be completed by Monday 13 April 2026.

  • Properties with unpaid rates are not eligible.


Examples of eligible works

  • Painting in approved colour schemes

  • Repairs to stumps, walls, roofs, doors and windows

  • Replacement of guttering and downpipes

  • Reinstating missing elements such as verandahs

The fund supports works that maintain, preserve or restore elements contributing to a property’s heritage value. It does not fund improvements such as new kitchens or bathrooms.


Free heritage advice
Council’s Heritage Advisor is available to assist with colour schemes and provide free advice on proposed works.


Who can apply
Owners of properties identified as eligible for this program will be contacted directly by letter.

If you believe your heritage property may be eligible but do not receive a letter, please contact Council.


How to apply

  1. Review the Local Heritage Fund Package (guidelines, conditions, selection criteria and application form).

  2. Obtain quotations for the proposed works.

  3. Submit your application by Friday 10 October 2025.
