The Jenny Wright Netball Courts in Walgett have undergone a major transformation thanks to funding from the NSW Government's Multi-Sport Community Facility Fund 2021-22, with strong support from Walgett Shire Council.
This project goes beyond sport infrastructure, it represents asset renewal and an investment in the long-term liveability of the Walgett Shire. Infrastructure like this is a powerful driver of economic activity, social connection and improved community health
Upgrades to the facility include:
-
Upgrades to the existing courts with an acrylic surface
-
Installation of new LED lighting towers
-
Construction of a modern amenities block
-
Landscaping of the surrounding area
-
Installation of accessible spectator seating
The project experienced unavoidable delays due to COVID-19, contractor availability and internal staffing changes. Despite these challenges, the courts were resurfaced and completed as of 16 July 2025. Fencing installation is currently underway, with grandstands and new toilet facilities to be installed shortly.
Under the terms of the grant, a minimum of $1 million in funding was provided, with applicants required to contribute one third of the total project cost. Walgett Shire Council proudly contributed $500,000 to help deliver this important community facility.
While the core components of the project are nearing completion, Council is also considering future improvements to car parking and site access, with planning for these upgrades to continue in the near term.
