Applications Now Open for the 2024 Dick Colless Memorial Scholarship

Walgett Shire Council invites applications for the Dick Colless Memorial Scholarships for 2024. The scholarships are awarded in honour of Dick Colless a former Walgett Shire Councillor who passed away in 2012. Dick was a strong advocate for affording youth the opportunity to gain permanent local employment through undertaking recognised courses that bring specialist skills back to our community.

Scholarships are awarded annually to Students who are entering their second and/or subsequent years of study at recognised tertiary institutions and TAFE colleges, who have their principal place of residence within Walgett Shire. The up to $2,500 awarded scholarship will go a long way to helping with course fees, accommodation requirements and any other special requirements for study including residential course attendance expenses.

In the past Scholarships have been awarded to Students studying; medicine, carpentry, veterinary science, plumbing, engineering, accounting, nursing and agriculture.

The scholarships provide an opportunity for Students in the Walgett Shire to pursue a career in an industry they are passionate about and set themselves up for success.
