Walgett Shire Council advises that Councillor Scott Bailey has formally resigned from his position on Council, citing increased work and personal commitments.
Former Councillor Bailey said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and the staff for your excellent work and acknowledge the burden and responsibility shouldered by my fellow councillors in their efforts to improve the Shire of Walgett for the benefit of all ratepayers. I wish the councillors and the staff every success into the future."
Council had previously resolved at its Extraordinary Meeting on 8 October 2024 to fill any vacancies arising during this period using the countback method. As the resignation has occurred within 18 months of the local government election, the NSW Electoral Commission will conduct a countback process which offers the role to the next eligible candidate. .
Council has notified the Electoral Commission and will share an update with the community once the new Councillor is confirmed.
Mayor Jasen Ramien said: “On behalf of Council, I want to sincerely thank Councillor Bailey for his contribution and commitment to the Walgett community during his time on Council. We wish him all the best for the future.”
We’ll continue to keep the community informed as the process moves forward.
