Collarenebri & Walgett - Artesian Bore Bath Update
Published on 27 June 2025
We know how important the bore baths are to both our community and visitors, and we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to get them up and running again.
Regrettably, the Collarenebri Bore Bath is not expected to reopen this winter. While there is no firm timeline yet, as the project remains in the design phase and is not shovel-ready, progress is steady. Designs for the evaporation ponds, a key component of the upgrade, are now approaching completion. Council assures that this remains a high priority.
Similarly, the Walgett Bore Bath will not reopen for the season. Several complex issues must be resolved to ensure the facility meets safety standards, regulatory compliance and long-term sustainability. Interim General Manager Andrew Brown emphasised that the Council is focused on a comprehensive solution rather than a quick fix. “We’re not interested in band-aid repairs that risk recurring problems or seasonal shutdowns,” he said. “Our commitment is to invest the necessary time and resources now, so these facilities can be enjoyed reliably well into the future.”
The Lightning Ridge and Burren Junction bore baths remain open.
Council thanks the community for their ongoing patience and understanding during this period. Updates will be provided as the projects progress and further information becomes available.
