Residents engage in Local Government Week 2023

Published on 17 August 2023

Walgett Shire Council showcased its commitment to keeping residents informed about its services and processes during an event in Collarenebri on August 10th. Many locals attended the event and enjoyed a sausage sizzle and refreshments while engaging with Council staff to gain valuable insights.

The Council’s Library services offered free books and membership incentives, advocating for early literacy initiatives and promoting services available to the broader Shire communities. Youth, culture and community development staff shared information about their services and distributed details about the diverse range of programs and projects they’re involved in.

The environmental staff interacted with residents with support from the Council Rangers who were actively promoting responsible pet ownership. Some residents took the opportunity to have their animals microchipped on the day. Meanwhile, the urban teams exhibited machinery and delivered information to residents keen on learning more.

Local Government Week provided an excellent opportunity to explore all the ways Council play a role in your community. It underscored the significance of councils to residents, ratepayers, businesses, and the entire community. Next year the event will take place in Walgett, and the Council looks forward to promoting its services and sharing information to the community.
