Collection Timeframe
Kerbside bin collections can occur at any time between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM on your scheduled collection day.
To ensure your bin is collected:
- Place your bin on the kerb before 6:00 AM
- Leave at least one metre of space between bins
- Ensure the bin is facing the road and the lid is fully closed
When Bins May Not Be Collected
Council may refuse collection if:
- A vehicle, tree or object is blocking access to the bin
- The bin is overfilled, too heavy (over 65kgs), or damaged
- The bin contains inappropriate waste (e.g. hot ash, liquids, building materials)
- The area is unsafe (e.g. poor road conditions or loose animals)
- The bin is not placed correctly or is not on the kerb
Missed Bin Collections
If your bin has been missed, please contact Council as soon as you notice.
While occasional mistakes can occur, the large distances between towns may prevent same-day collection. Still, it's important to report missed bins — especially if the issue is recurring — so it can be investigated and resolved.
Damaged or Stolen Bins
Please note that Walgett Shire Council does not manage or maintain garbage bins, and we are unable to provide replacements if your bin is lost, stolen, or damaged.
If you need to purchase a new bin, you can do so by contacting our Customer Service Team on 02 6828 6100. Our team will be happy to assist you with ordering your bin.
Please be aware that Council does not offer a delivery service for bins, so you will need to arrange collection or transport yourself from our depots.
