Over 160 young people came together to celebrate National Children's Week 2023 programs across Walgett, Lightning Ridge and Collarenebri in October. They engaged in a series of events delivered by our youth teams, with support from Mission Australia and the Rural Fire Service.

Youth Development Officer Sandra Bladen said, “The young people had a ball and it was tremendous to see the number participate. Events were staged at youth centres in Lightning Ridge and Walgett as well as the pool in Collarenebri. Activities included a series of dance offs, ball game competitions and munchies such as snow cones, hotdogs and fruit salads. There were fire safety talks from the Lightning Ridge Rural Fire Service with some exciting giveaways. It was a fun time for all.”

It’s encouraging to witness services collaborating for positive outcomes for our youth and young people. Council offers a word of thanks to Jodie-Lee Heatherington of Misson Australia, Collarenebri Pool Manager, Seth Riley and the entire Lightning Ridge RFS crew that supports events and our youth development teams across the Shire.
