NOTICE TO COMMUNITY

To improve the assessment efficiency of all planning related applications and improve consistency for the public, Walgett Shire Council has decided to centralize all planning related applications solely to the New South Wales Planning Portal.  As a result, all of Council’s former planning application forms have been superseded effective from the date of this notice.

What is the purpose of this proposed change?

The aim of this transition is to improve consistency in the method current and future applicants follow when applying for all town planning related applications.  Centralizing everything onto one platform, rather than having separate forms for individual application types will minimize confusion.  It also allows Council staff to manage all incoming applications more systematically, and we expect this will translate into a more efficient application assessment process.  Many other councils in NSW have already centralized their applications onto the NSW Planning Portal.

What if I struggle to use the NSW Planning Portal?

Council's Planning Team is currently in the process of preparing a step by step guide on how to utilize the NSW Planning Portal for each application type.  They will be written in plain English and accompanied by supporting diagrams to provide as much support as possible.  These guides will also be published on Council's website for your convenience.  If you still feel uncomfortable with following the guides, you may request a face to face appointment with the Planning Team at Walgett Shire Council's Administration Office (77 Fox Street, Walgett) or our Lightning Ridge Office (35 Pandora Street, Lightning Ridge).  Staff will be there to assist you with navigating the portal.

I noticed some planning related documents on Walgett Shire Council's website that aren't application forms, will these be removed too?

No, all planning related documents that remain on Council's website are compulsory supporting documents that must be included in your Development Application.  Council is in the process of making the appropriate revisions and will have this completed as soon as possible.

To assist you through this transitional period, Council has prepared a comprehensive guide on utilising the New South Wales Planning Portal to lodge a variety of planning applications including, but not limited to, Development Applications, Section 10.7 Planning Certificates and Section 68 applications.
