Walgett Water Supply Notice to Residents

Published on 07 May 2023

Dave Ryan & Water Minister
Residents of Walgett will have noticed a change in their water following the switch from bore water to river water last week.
However, as previously advised, this is a complex process that takes time to ensure the water treatment and supply are fully stable. Therefore, as part of this work we have had to switch back to bore water while we continue the work to ensure we have a stable and reliable system for the long term.
Our current rectification works may mean we cannot make the switch back to river water until the end of the week while we complete a bypass pipeline that allows the treatment plant to work continuously regardless of the water source.
In the meantime, we are ensuring you have access to reliable and clean water.
DPE Water is continuing to provide experienced water operators on the ground who are working with Walgett Council staff and overseeing the transition to help deliver a stable system in the coming weeks.
We want to thank the community for their patience and understanding while we perfect the treatment process.
Throughout this transition period, we are closely monitoring water quality and will immediately update the community if anything changes.
